After Israel entered the Promised Land, a cycle of sin and desperate prayers brought the necessity of Judges to be set over Israel by God—not only to help Israel fight battles, but to bring them back into submission to God. The cycle of idolatry, repentance, deliverance, and peace followed the life cycle of each judge. Most succeeded in some ways, but either the Israelite nation fell back into idolatry, or the judge him/herself fell into sin! God’s mercy, forgiveness, and parental desire to care for His people is clearly seen throughout this jam packed Time Period (and book of the Bible!)
